We all know that women rock fashion. We can’t help it. We take pride in our appearance and make sure that we look our best all the time. We don’t do it to draw attention to ourselves (well not always), we don’t do it to win the hearts of others (ok maybe sometimes) but we mainly do it for ourselves. It makes us feel better to look good and to feel good in clothes. We always try to keep up with the trends and sometimes come up with a few of our own! One trend that is blowing us away at the moment is mens fashion…for women!
It may be painful for men to admit but it’s true, we girls just make their clothes look better. There are lots of new items coming out that have previously been designed for men and now are finding their way onto the womens rails. Items such as ties, mens shirts, trilby hats and cowboy boots are just a few of the items you will see in womens clothes shops now.
Admittedly the items you see are not exactly the same as those that men wear, which stands to reason really as most men won’t be to open to wearing a pair of pink cowboy boots. The designers have taken the idea from the men in their life and expanded on it to suit women.
Cowboy boots seem to be the biggest trend at the moment with almost everyone wearing a pair, both men and women. They are so versatile and easy to wear and they go with absolutely everything. You could be wearing a pair of skinny jeans or maybe a floaty dress and cowboy boots would still set it off beautifully. If you are looking for one key item to buy this season to compliment your wardrobe then I’d suggest a pair of cowboy boots.

Well before we get into this argument lets look at what is meant by dress boots and what is meant by casual boots.
Fist of all dress boots. As the name suggests these boots are worn to a restaurant or a business meeting. Anywhere where you want to look good. As a result they are usually elegant looking with an extended heel. An example of a dress boot is go-go boots and knee high boots.
Casual boots are footwear we would wear everyday. A good example is Doc Martins. Both women and men wear this popular footwear and they are of excellent quality. Other examples of casual boots are motorcycle boots and cowboy boots.
So what do you prefer? Are you a casual person or a dress person? Perhaps you are both. Well there is no doubt that they give people a different style. Casual boots for example have a colorful history. They have been worn by the military, the police, skinheads and punks. More recently you see Goths wearing boots. They certainly have a rebellious quality and individualism that much footwear lack.
When you wear casual boots, perhaps along with your clothes and haircut they tell people exactly what you are interested in. How many times have you seen a skinhead walking confidently down the road with a heavy pair of steel caps? Did you avoid his stare? Probably. A similar thing with cowboy and motorcycle boots. We see this footwear on people and automatically make presumptions about them. It is a natural thing to do and no doubt why people are wearing these boots in the first place.
On the other hand dress boots are associated with confident, good looking people. Men and women who have good jobs and want to look good when they go out. Often we see models wearing knee high boots on the catwalk. But what do these say about you? Unlike casual boots, dress boots tend to give you a less edgy appearance, rather than being associating them with a sub-culture we tend to think high society. They give you a refined look and mark someone out as a respected person in society.
A lot of people own both kinds of footwear. If they are going to the pub they wear Doc Martins. If they are going on a date they may wear there knee high boots. That is the good thing about today’s culture it seems like every fashion has been exhausted and we can feel free to wear what we like. When we like. Casual boots for example though linked in the past with skinheads are now worn by straightedge vegans. No longer do they have the negative connatations associated with them in the past.

How Popular Are Western Boots
Western boots perhaps are the single biggest style statement to come out of the 20th Century. Almost a symbol of America and American popular culture, it has dominated images of footwear on screen, literature high and pop, and music and all other cultural forms.
There is this very interesting anecdote about how the Western boot came into being. After the Civil War in the mid 19th Century, Southerners moving to the then safer place of Texas took with them their own footwear – the Wellington boot. It was specially suited for the purpose, as the majority had to cover the distance on foot. The Wellington, in those days, had flat heels, and rose up to the calf almost. In Texas, it got modified by local style, and we had the Fabulous, Famous Western Boot.
Today we have western boots available in a variety of styles, meant for different people. While farm workers can use long legged shoes to protect their feet while working, we also have specially designed Westerns for sports purposes – skiing, skating etc. There are even special children’s shoes, with their own simple needs, like easy to wear, non-stumble variety out on show. Mostly made of leather, these boots are also modified to take care of different temperature needs, cold winter for example, or stylish spring wears.
As far horse riding is concerned, in order to control the horse better, heels are often specially designed, with the end part slightly upturned.
Another significant change in the design, which still persists today, is the rounder toe design. Along with lower soles, this change was introduced in 1954, to keep up the competition with “rodeos”. The Western boot acquired massive popularity as an iconic cultural symbol in the 70s, with several cowboy films going on to become cult classics and ensuring their popularity. While the rounded toe and low heel was the classic, quintessential cowboy look, immortalized by the likes of Clint Eastwood, Charlton Heston, there were other major innovations as well, with spiked, pointed toes, and high heels, reaching up to the mid calf.
Even today, coming up with a single pair of cowboy western boots requires a lot of work on the part of the shoe manufacturer. That is why they are made according to customized orders. Each order would take around 45 hours; yes, and they are costly.
Do not therefore, rush into buying these shoes. Take a walk and make sure they are comfortable first. Remember that these were primarily made as men’s shoes, although women wear them more today. You can also have special stitches on the toes to add to that wrinkly look, and other designs that you wish. One special feature is that Western boots have soles which can be distinguished from the heels, which adds to the style. A number of colors are also available, from the traditional black and gray to trendier, spunkier colors like beige and pink. So, take your pick and then you can ride away into the sunset.
